Manufacturer

The Internet of Toys Certification Scheme is built around the DCMS Code of Practice for Consumer IoT Security, the ETSI standard (103645) for Cyber Security for Consumer Internet of Things and the Information Commissioner’s Office Age Appropriate Design Code.

This combines the three core elements relevant to you as a Manufacturer placing toys, devices and associated services and apps on the market in the United Kingdom. The scheme provides the information you may be legally required to share with distributors and retailers to whom you sell your products.

Registering as a Manufacturer

When you register as an approved Manufacturer with the IoT Scheme, you will be able to request a risk assessment for a particular connected toy or device.

  • For toys assessed as having only ‘basic connected functionality’ based on the answers you provide in the online assessment, you will be able to register the toy with the Scheme and download a Certificate of Conformity for it.
  • For toys with a ‘standard level of connected functionality’, an approved Conformity Assessment Body will be notified and a trusted Reviewer will assess your toy. Once the product has been assessed as safe, you will be able to register the toy and download the Certificate of Conformity.
  • For toys considered as posing the highest level of risk due to their ‘enhanced connected functionality’, an approved Conformity Assessment Body will conduct an independent, third party assessment on your product; similarly, once the toy is approved, you can register the toy and download the Certificate of Conformity.

As an approved Manufacturer, you will also be able to respond to requests from Consumers, including parents, who have raised concerns over a particular toy.
